Postop day 3
Andrew continues to amaze. He is off all meds and fluids. Pacer leads have been removed and his last line is hep locked. Just basic noninvasive monitors remain. Nasal cannula will come off after the next echo shows normal function. He has been eating like a champ as well. The biggest concern of the day is his bilirubin is a touch high. It's nice to worry about normal newborn stuff for a change. He is on track to be home on Sunday barring a setback. Hooray!

ReplyDeleteWords just cannot do justice to the relief we all feel at how this week has played out for this champ! Normal newborn stuff...so nice to have our worry level down a few notches.
We changed his handle here at our pad from
'Awesome Andrew' to 'Awesomely Aerating Andrew' (Triple A for short). If I was a better seamstress, I'd make him a bonafide cape with AAA across it.
And now for a technical question: was it his aorta that was switched with his pulmonary artery or did he have a different variation of transposition of the great vessels? As intricate as all of our pieces are, it is really kind of amazing that most of us are born into this world without major anomalies. Just the complexities of the heart alone...
